Here are a few typical cases of people we recently assisted:
A British woman with 2 small children and an American husband lost her well paying job due to illness. The family’s debts mounted and within 6 months they found themselves evicted from their home and living in a shelter.
How the British Charitable was able to assist:
- The Society paid off all their outstanding utility bills, which enabled them to start new accounts with a clear debt record, when they moved into a new apartment.
A British man who emigrated here with his parents as a child, lost his job and within a short space of time was in danger of losing both his electricity and heating (oil) because he hadn’t enough money to pay his bills.
How the British Charitable was able to assist:
- The Society paid his outstanding electricity bill and had his oil tank filled. He was able to find a job within a couple of months and restore his credit rating.
A divorced mother of 2 children, whose British husband had absconded, needed money urgently to pay outstanding utility bills and car repairs to enable her to continue getting to her job.
How the British Charitable was able to assist:
- Over a period of time the Society provided assistance to this lady on an ad hoc basis. We occasionally paid her rent and paid for her car to be fixed when necessary. As her children grew more independent she was able to increase her working hours and earn enough money to support herself.
